摘要

The book deals with a range of research issues and discusses them critically. The first part of the book provides comprehensive accounts of what research is for and how social research may be applied to social work. It achieves this without either being too complicated on the one had or over-simplistic on the other. The second part of the book then begins with a chapter on research ethics before going on to discuss the difference between methods and methodology and the strengths and weaknesses of different approaches to research. The chapter that explains statistics is particularly good as it challenges scepticism about the value of statistical research while also acknowledging its limitations. The third and final section of the book addresses issues relating to the involvement of service users and stakeholders in designing, carrying out and disseminating research, and also discusses who should 'control' what is disseminated and what different dissemination strategies might be considered.
