摘要

The application of cytogenet ics arid molecular biology to the study of mesenchymal neoplasia has enhanced our understanding of this fascinating group of tumors. Nowhereis this better illustrated than in the fibroblastic neoplasms.Cytogenetic and molecular data have contributed to thedevelopment of new diagnostic markers, confirmed longstanding suspicions about relationships between differenttumors, and even established the neoplastic nature of somelesions previously believed to be nonneoplastic. These data,have shed considerable insight into the molecular mechanisms of oncogenesis and paved the way for the development of the first rationale-based therapies designed to targetspecific oncogenic pathways. This brief review highlights,these principles by discussing three specific examples;dermatofibrosarcoma protuberans (giant .cell fibroblastoma,fibrosarcomatoiis dermatofibrosarcoma .protuberans), inflammatory myofibrobiastic tumor, and congenital fibrosarcpma(mesobiastic nephroma).
