Exports to Japan of Wilpinjong coal produced in New South Wales, Australia, seem to be under strong tune. In 2010 a number of companies including electric power companies imported on trial basis and as the result of burning was favorable, continuation of future exports is expected. Wilpinjong coal mine is opencut thermal coal mine located 40 km north east of Mudgee in New South Wales. Interest in the mine is 100 percent owned by Peabody Energy. The coal production was started in February 2007, but as produced coal at this mine is thermal coal with high ash content, about 70 percent of production was delivered for domestic thermal power stations until 2009.
