摘要

MANY interventions designed to improve asthma management have been shown to improve asthma care and health outcomes. Despite the success of these interventions, a significant proportion of people with asthma do not have optimal asthma management. They may rarely visit their GP, do not routinely check the severity of their asthma, use inhalers inappropriately, cease medication use when they feel their asthma has improved, and can be generally unconcerned about their disease and its life-threatening consequences. History shows that pharmacists have been either part of or, in some cases, integral to many successful asthma care interventions conducted both nationally and overseas. An example is a project undertaken in 2001 by the Pharmacy Practice Research Foundation, Faculty of Pharmacy, University of Sydney: Specialisation as a professional option: Asthma specialty pharmacies (Saini B, Krass I Armour C).
