摘要

Glucocorticoids have a wide range of applications in multiple disciplines of medicine. Independent of the reason for their use, all patients receiving long-term glucocorticoid treatment have an increased risk of developing osteoporosis. In glucocorticoid-induced osteoporosis (GIOP), the risk of fractures exceeds the risk of reduced bone mineral density (BMD). Thus, for a given BMD, the risk of fracture may be greater in GIOP than in postmenopausal osteoporosis. Early prevention of osteoporosis with appropriate prophylaxis is therefore essential.
