I was among the judging team that travelled around Australia for the 2007 Pharmacy of the Year competition.It was wonderful to be involved with the competition since it allowed me to see the innovative ways in which many pharmacies approach the delivery of a variety of health services to the Australian community.What struck me most when looking at all the entrants was the way in which they were placing emphasis on improving both the 'front of store' and their professional sendees and activities.In discussion with the applicants, they generally saw the need to wean themselves from such a heavy reliance on the PBS. That is something that really stood out across the country-pharmacies can't rely on the PBS any more, with margins in that area falling.
