Dr Sunderaj said the number of pain centres in Australia was far from ideal in terms of coverage for the population. 'Statistically, almost 15 per cent of the adult population suffers from chronic pain, out of which the majority seem to manage alright,' he said. 'However, 3 to 5 per cent of the average population appear not to be managing from any number of causes,' Dr Sunderaj said.
