A USTRALIAN pharmacists will hear first hand about the aggressive retail price war on generic medicines that is having an impact on independent pharmacies in the US when Bruce Roberts, executive vice-president and chief executive officer of the National Community Pharmacists Association (NCPA), addresses delegates at the Australian Pharmacy Professional (APP) conference on the Gold Coast in March.Mr Roberts will examine the fallout since retail giant Wal-Mart announced in September 2006 that it would introduce a dollar4 per month prescription cost for 300 generic medicine brands in 26 therapeutic categories. In an escalation to the price war Target announced in December it would introduce its own dollar4 generic discount program in all 1,287 Target pharmacies.
