"For leadership of rigorous research on the development ofdemocratic attitudes and civic knowledge among adoles-cents from more than 30 countries that has served as a cat-alyst for education and youth policy reform. Judith V. Tor-ney-Purta led research projects that are prime examples ofinternational collaboration. She drew on these experiencesin contributing to an initiative on international collabora-tion among behavioral and social scientists sponsored bythe U.S. National Committee for the International Union ofPsychological Science (of which she is a member). For 30years she has been a persistent advocate within APA forinternational perspectives in the undergraduate psychologycurriculum. She mentors young scholars internationally andcontinues to be a remarkable ambassador for the impor-tante of using multiple methods that cross both nationaland disciplinary boundaries and for incorporating diverseperspectives."
