A research group led by Taiyo Oil has developed a high-performance desulfurization catalyst to remove sulfur,harmful to fuel cells,from liquefied petroleum gas (LPG),that could lengthen the service life of fuel cells and reduce their size.The nickel-supported alumina catalyst is produced with a sputtering method.Compared with an existing nickel-based catalyst,the new catalyst removed sulfur to the same level but achieved complete elimination of carbonyl sulfide,unlike the existing catalyst,according to the researchers.
