With the large amount of gross dollars per acre and resulting total gross income approaching over 2 dollar million for many operations, it is often easy to say, "Let's hire another employee to help us. We can do that for 12/dollar hour." Often we do that without realizing the real cost of adding a 12/ dollar hour employee. The first cost is your time included in hiring. If done correctly you should spend time screening and especially doing reference and background checks. For this example let's assume we have a qualified employee in the chute and ready to work and there is not a recruitment cost. If this process is done correctly it could be written off as a public relations cost as more people will know your mission, vision, goals and strategies.
