After a sharp increase in price in November 1995 following typhoons that hit coconut growing areas in the Philippines, price of coconut oil went down gradually to about US 700 dollar/MT Cif Rotterdam during the first half of January 1996. It lost by about US 80 dollar/MT as compared to the peak price in November 1995. Inspite of destructive typhoons in the Philippines in October and November 1995, exports of coconut oil from the country up to end of December 1995 remained high. According to preliminary reports from UCAP, coconut oil shipments averaged more than 100,000 tons a month in the last quarter 1995 as compared to 89,000 tons a month in the third quarter 1995.
