摘要

Coconut fiber and dust absorb water readily and retain it for a long period. They are used to prevent soil erosion, as fertilizer and pesticide and planting material. An engineer from the Philippines has develop a machine that extracts fiber and coirdust from coconut husks. The fiber is made into mats and nets which are turned into good planting medium. After extraction from the coconut husks the fibre is spun into twin and made into nets. The nets look like mats and can be rolled up like carpets ready to be transported. Incidentally this is the way grass courts are put in place during tennis tournaments like those in Wimbledon.
