Rhodium fabrication demand rose to 946,387 ounces in 2013, up 1.7% from 2012. This was the fourth consecutive year that rhodium fabrication demand rose. The primary driver of growth was the auto market, which accounts for approximately 84% of total rhodium fabrication demand. Despite rising for four consecutive years rhodium fabrication demand is still below its record high level of demand of 1.02 million ounces in 2007. Many of the industries using rhodium have recovered from the weakness that they experienced during the Great Recession, but the sharp increase in rhodium prices during 2008 resulted in manufacturers successfully reducing the per unit usage of rhodium in various applications. This has offset to some extent the recovery in demand for various end products using rhodium. That said, global rhodiumfabrication demand had risen 14% in 2013 from the recent low of 826,664 ounces touched in 2009.
