Making interspecific and intergener-ic crosses can be very discouraging at times. Low percentages of two to five percent successful fertilization are not uncommon in these wide crosses. What is a plant breeder to do? The answer is to be willing to try anything, no matter how far-fetched it may seem at first. Following are a few examples.
