I recently purchased on e-bay two photographs (one is reproduced here as photo A) taken in the New Ranges at Shoeburyness, the main focus of interest being a rather ancient passenger coach. However, the object that grabbed my attention was what appeared to be one of the two Caledon Railway Lorries (type 242R) that served on the Shoeburyness Military Tramway from 1920 when they arrived from France; until local disposal in 1952. Enlarging the photo confirmed that this was indeed Caledon 'Local No.l' with the Eastern Command Number 3/2023 which matches that appearing on the Army Form G 927A, a locomotive record cum history sheet. A number of these for steam and diesel engines, railcars, rolling stock etc. have survived and are currently lodged in the historical archive at Shoebury.
