摘要

IN THE WAKE OF THE RECENT power failures in Sydney and New York, Standards Australia has published new guidelines to help organisations deal with impacts ranging from the failure of essential services to natural disasters and terror attacks. The guidelines titled, HB 221:2003 Business Continuity Management, come on the back of a recent survey by the Macquarie Graduate School of Management that showed that only 18 per cent of councils and 13.6 per cent of businesses surveyed had fully documented business continuity plans. The Director of Business Standards at Standards Australia, Mr Mark Bezzina, said: "Everything from the 9/11 attacks to recent floods across Europe have demonstrated that businesses need to develop strategies for managing wide-scale disruptions resulting from the loss of vital services such as electricity, water, gas, transport and communications.
