The management of Horton House, a small Aged Care facility in rural NSW, turned to BEA's Excellence in Aged Care Program to assist it gaining Accreditation. Our Continuous Improvement program was not robust enough for Round One of Accreditation in 2000. As Director of Nursing I knew that unless we developed our Continuous Improvement process we would have a similar negative experience in Round Two. We are a very small [35 bed] high care facility in rural NSW and sometimes feel like we're on Mars. Taking Horton House through the Excellence in Aged Care Program gave us the opportunity to "feed off the big fish" and was well worth the time and financial investment. The Program has had a truly inspiring effect on the staff at Horton House.
