One of the major challenges for manufacturers and exporters of electronic and electrical goods in this country has been the cost of testing and certifying goods for the differing conditions and standards of various overseas markets. A certification scheme developed by the International Electrotechnical Commission [IEC] that is overseen in Australia and New Zealand by SM Global, is helping businesses meet that challenge. The scheme, titled IEC System for Conformity Testing and Certification of Electrical Equipment [IECEE CB Scheme] facilitates National Certification through mutual recognition of test reports produced by participating countries. "Ensuring that the design, safety and manufacturing processes that have gone into electrical or electronic products meet the standards and conditions of their desired markets is critical to the success of importers, exporters and manufacturers of these products and to the satisfaction of consumers and users," explains head of SM Global's Electrotechnology Product Certification group, Mr Roy Jacobi.
