Standards Australia is committed to the use of electronic technology wherever it will provide tangible benefits. In line with this approach, the latest enhancements to our electronic tools will make it easier and faster for the public to provide comment on draft Standards. While most people now prefer to download drafts for comment from the SM webshop comments are still largely submitted on a hard copy pro-forma then manually collated into form that a Committee can easily consider. In a new initiative, we will shortly replace the pro-forma with a link to the electronic commenting template. It will be much easier to insert comments into this template, rather than the pro-forma; and there won't be any chance of comments getting overlooked which can sometimes happen, if, for example, we can't read your handwriting. Once it's filled in, you simply need to e-mail the template to the responsible Projects Manager. The end result will be a professional set of comments for the Committee to consider that can be easily handled electronically. The change to all electronic commenting was introduced by ISO and IEC a few years ago; and when we make a similar change locally, it will bring Standards Australia into line with international best practice.
