As you know, Florida Citrus Mutual is busy on the state and federal levels pursuing such diverse issues as research funding, immigration reform, tax breaks for agriculture and fair trade policies.The hard reality of Washington, D.C. and Tallahassee is that true access to elected officials requires campaign contributions. It is a fact of politics and one that is understandable. Politicians require money to get reelected.I'm proud to say Florida Citrus Mutual—and Florida agriculture in general—fights way above its weight class, not only because of our compelling story and the $9 billion economic impact and 76,000 jobs citrus supports but also because growers are willing to put their money wheretheir mouth is.
