Dear Sir, Traumatic dorsal dislocation of the thumb metacarpophalangeal (MCP) joint is more common than palmar dislocation. Fifteen cases of palmar dislocation of the thumb MCP joint have been reported since 1973 (Mata et al., 1991; Miyamoto et al., 1986; Shingal, 1974; Wood and Dobyns, 1981). None had an associated fracture. We present an unusual case of a palmar fracture-dislocation of the metacarpophalangeal joint of the thumb where the associated ligament injury prevented stable closed reduction.
