Two new quinone type compounds,variecolorquinones A (1) and B (2) together with eleven known related compounds 3-13 have been isolated from the metabolites produced by the halotolerant fungal strain Aspergillus variecolor B-17.The structures of 1 and 2 were determined by spectroscopic methods.1 exhibited selective cytotoxicity against A-549 cells with the IC50 values of 3.0 mu M.2 showed cytotoxicity against HL60 and P388 cells with the IC50 values of 1.3 and 3.7 mu M,respectively.
