In the 2009 movie My Sister's Keeper, based on Jodi Picoult's novel of the same title, a couple uses reproductive technology to conceive a child to serve as a donor for their leukemia-stricken daughter, and the savior sibling goes to court to file for medical emancipation from them. Not a typical tearjerker, the movie has won extensive critical acclaim for its well-crafted script and good acting, as well as triggered an avalanche of thought-provoking questions and debates concerning the ethicality of creating a life to save a life.
