摘要

During his "Most Fascinating People of 2005" interview with Barbara Walters, film actor Tom Cruise revealed information about his private life that led some members of the medical community to speculate he was engaging in some "risky business." Cruise disclosed that he and fiancee Katie Holmes had purchased their own sonogram machine to determine the sex of their child.1 Perhaps what was most fascinating about this revelation was that a person could purchase and use an ultrasound machine for non-medical purposes. The business of non-medical ultrasounds, commonly referred to as "keepsake ultrasounds," has rapidly grown in popularity during the past few years, generating millions of dollars in revenues and providing expectant mothers with unprecedented views into the womb by utilizing the latest developments in ultrasound technology.
