We thank Drs Han and Lee for the comment on our recently published article, "Spindle cell squamous cell carcinoma not expressing stratified but simple epithelial cytokeratin: Efficacy of simple epithelial cytokeratin immunoreactivity". In our article, we stated that CAM5.2 reacts with cytokeratin (CK)8 and CK18, referring to the original paper of Makin ef al., in which it is claimed that antibody CAM5.2 identifies the lower molecular weight CK (CK8 and CK18). At that time, we did not apply the knowledge that Becton Dickinson Biosciences, the producer of CAM5.2 reagent, revised the data sheet for CAM5.2 in 1997. It suggests that CAM5.2 recognizes human cytokeratin intermediate filament proteins at 48 kD and 52 kD, which are identified as CK7 and CK8, respectively. At present, we realize that CAM5.2 shows specific reactivity for CK8, less strict reactivity for CK7, but no reactivity for CK18. However, our main intended meaning is the efficacy of simple epithelial cytokeratin immunoreactivity such as CAM5.2.
