摘要

Electroconvulsive therapy (ECT) stimuli that are identical in electrical dose may differ in biological effects. Whereas research has largely focused on longer stimulus trains and narrower pulse width, in a refreshingly different investigation Roepke et al reported that a 40-Hz low-frequency stimulus had greater anti-depressant efficacy than a 100-Hz high-frequency stimulus. This investigation was conducted in depressed patients treated with suprathreshold, right unilateral ultrabrief-pulse ECT.
