Last winter's floods have raised the issue of land useand land management as both the cause and thesolution to flooding in Cumbria and across the country. Ministers have been heard musing about the need to increase tree planting and many from within the woodland world have voiced their support.Despite these words I have yet to see any coherent plan about how this might be achieved, how many trees are needed, what it might cost, where are we going to plant these trees and who is going to do this? To stimulate this debate I would like to offer the following thoughts in respect of the river Eden catchment, the source of Carlisle's flooding.
