摘要

We have become used to the idea of ahen species causing problems in UK woodlands. Terry Mabbett turns the tables and looks at how some of our familiar trees are threatening habitats on the other side of the world. Agood slogan for persuading plant-minded tourists to visit Australia could be "you don't have to travel the world to see its flora because most is here". Australia has its own rich and wide-ranging indigenous flora in vastly different climatic zones, soil types and ecosystems, and a lot more besides as alongside the native plant families, genera and species are massive numbers of alien (exotic to Australia) plants. Many are already serious environmental weeds.
