Last December, the University of Central Lancashire's Cumbria Campus at Newton Rigg, Penrith, and Myerscough College, Preston, were jointly awarded Centre of Vocational Excellence (CoVE) status for the northwest by the Learning and Skills Council. Theaward includes a 550,000 pound grant spread over the next three years to help both bodies to develop forestry and arboriculture education in the region. The money has been earmarked to acquire a mixed training woodland, specialist training equipment todevelop new courses and a Mobile Learning Unit to support work-based learning throughout the northwest.
