摘要

A successful field day at Northmoor Trust demonstrated the value of genetics and silviculture research in developing our hardwood timber resource. Ted Wilson and Chris Starr report on the proceedings. The NDG James Memorial Event in 2004 was based onthe theme, Better Trees, Better Profits. Organised by the Royal Forestry Society, the objective was to highlight current research in genetics and silviculture dedicated to improving the quality, and therefore the value, of hardwood timber in Britain. The event was organised in two parts. The first part took the form of an international conference (Hemery and Savill 2004). The second part, reported here, was organised as a field day on 10 June 2004.
