摘要

ForestSat 2005 was the second conference to be organised by the ForestSAFE project, an international research collaboration project between Sweden and Great Britain. The conference follows up on its predecessor which was hosted in Edinburgh in 2002. This year's conference was entitled 'Operational Tools in Forestry Using Remote Sensing Techniques', and was held in Boras, Sweden on 31st May - 3rd June 2005. The conference was focused around the results of the ForestSAFE project, alongside numerous presentations demonstrating the practical use of new remote sensing technology in European forestry. The four day conference was divided into a two day scientific workshop, a one day practical workshop and a field excursion day. The scientific workshop consisted of in excess of 70 presentations from delegates from Europe, Canada and the USA, with the practical workshop having 24 presentations. There were two poster sessions and software demonstrations during the two day workshop, although the posters wereavailable for viewing for the entire conference duration. Proceedings of the scientific workshop were published by The Swedish National Board of Forestry, and are available online along with the presentations of the practical workshop. Selected papers from the conference will be included in a special edition of Remote Sensing of Environment.
