Scott McG. Wilson reports on a project, funded by Woodland Heritage, highlighting the silvicultural and utilisation potential of the minor conifers through the medium of illustrated case-studies. A wide range of introduced conifer species have proventheir potential to produce quality timber in Britain, although only a small number have well established industrial-scale markets. Climate change and tree disease impacts are encouraging renewed interest in some of the less commonly planted species. Thisproject sought to demonstrate, through the development of illustrated case-studies, that these 'minor conifers' can be successfully grown and marketed in Britain in future.
