摘要

Tucked within the dollar787 billion American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 signed by President Obama on February 17, 2009, was a measure directing dollar19.2 billion towards improving Health Information Technology (HIT) and Electronic Health Records (EHR). The stimulus legislation is not the first attempt to develop HIT in the U.S., but the spending will represent a dramatic increase over past government expenditures for HIT. The challenges inherent to health care reform of United States system are reflected in that the first major change for health care technological innovation is buried in the midst of a much larger bill. After years of lagging behind the rest of the industrialized world in utilizing HIT, these funds will enable long overdue and concrete changes to the health care system.
