摘要

The crucial need for redesign and real transformation of the United States' health care system runs throughout all of the Institute of Medicine's (2010) Future of Nursing report recommendations. That nurses need to and will play both foundational and leading roles almost goes without saying, but how they can best be prepared to do that is a key question. This particular recommendation from the Institute of Medicine points us toward the answer: "Nurses should be full partners, with physicians and other health care professionals, in redesigning health care in the United States" (Institute of Medicine, 2010, p. 4). This partnership-already essential to delivering care to patients across the United States-is just as essential to successful transformation of the quality and efficiency of that care.
