I am sure you will agree that drugs and fluids are expensive, so much so that college administrations generally will not support the purchase of desired and, in some cases, essential supplies for use in technician training programs. Pharmacy technician programs often run on shoestring budgets. Many programs are not funded in ways to allow for the purchase of all training supplies desired. Program personnel often resort to beg-and-borrow mentalities to acquire enough supplies to provide realistic experiences for their students. What to do? You learn to be resourceful. One means of being resourceful is to manufacture many of the products used in aseptic technique instruction. What a pleasure to walk into your laboratory and have a wide variety of training supplies-drugs and fluids-or at least an adequate amount and variety of supplies to use in your laboratory exercises.
