摘要

Concordance in subjective and psychophysiologic sexual arousal is a topic that has received widespread interest within sex research for decades. In particular, studies have tended to find relatively low agreement between sexual arousal that is self-reported and genital vasocongestion that is measured by a psychophysiologic instrument in women with relatively higher rates of agreement or concordance in men. The meaning of these gender differences has been debated, but this study represents the first and systematic review of this entire literature and a meta-analysis of actual concordance rates across 132 peer-reviewed studies. Chivers and colleagues tested a number of different predictions about the nature of concordance and the observed gender differences and these will be summarized in this review.
