摘要

In January 2008, the U.S. National Institutes of Health (NIH) announced their final revised policy on public access to published material resulting from NIH-funded research (NOT-OD-08-033) [1]. This policy established deposit requirements to ensure that the public has access to these publications. Not all authors, however, are aware that the burden of compliance with this mandate lies with them, and not all are clear on the exact details of the policy or how to ensure they are compliant. In an effort to meet the terms of the NIH policy, some, but not all, publishers have put in place policies to enable authors to comply with the mandate. How they are implemented varies from publisher to publisher, and from journal to journal, and, as a result, there has been a growing level of confusion among authors, editors, and societies. To clarify for authors and contributors to The Journal of Sexual Medicine (JSM), I would like to outline JSMs policy.
