摘要

The Journal of Sexual Medicine {JSM) serves a wide audience that comprises medical professionals in urology, gynecology, and psychiatry, clinical psychologists and sex therapists, and basic researchers studying the mechanisms of sexual responding at molecular, neural, pharmacological, behavioral, and social levels. This diversity is reflected in the variety of papers submitted for publication. Research reports in the journal span men's and women's sexual health at many levels, from the technical medical procedures to the epidemiology to the validation of subjective report measures and questionnaires. Studies that utilize animal models are becoming more prevalent in the journal, as are studies that examine human brain activation during the presentation of sex-related stimuli. This diversity has necessitated the addition of editorial board members for the journal to handle the increasing number of papers from those disparate domains. The meteoric rise in the journal's impact factor (from 4.676 in 2006 to 6.199 in 2007) has led to an increased number of papers submitted (over 700 submissions in 2008!), and an increase in the number of issues (from 6 to 12 per year, with several supplements), at the same time keeping our rejection rate at approximately 45%.
