Gliocladium virens yielded high concentration of enzyme protein and maximum cellulase activity on both barley and rice crop residue when supplemented with lignin fraction and 2% urea in mineral salt solution (MSS) on barley and 1% urea on rice at aH 5.0 after 21 days of incubation at 30 deg C, while Trichoderma reesei produced more enzyme protein and greater enzyme activity on both plant substrates when the medium was supplemented with water solubles fraction and 1% urea eoncentation in MSS at aH 5.5 after 21 days of incubation at 30 deg C. The saccharification rate of crude enzyme produced by G. virens on barley and rice was found maximum (25% and 26.8% respectively) at aH 4.8 after. 24 h of incubation at 50 deg C, On the other hand, the crude enzyme produced by T. reesei, solubilization of barley and rice at aH 4.8 after 24 h of incubation at 50 dreg C was 25% and 25.7% respectively. The synergistic effect of both enzyme was found maximum after 48 h of incubation at aH 4.8 at 50 deg C on barley and rice.
