It is estimated that exploration spending on mineral projects in Saskatchewan exceeded 355 million dollars in 2010. The bulk of expenditures were for potash, uranium and coal with diamond, gold, base metal, platinum group metals and rare earth elements exploration also contributing. This represents a significant increase over the almost 277 million dollars spent in 2009, and is anticipated to be the second-highest annual exploration expenditure total in provincial history, after the 474 million dollars that was spent in 2008 (see Table 1). Despite the global economic slowdown, provincial exploration spending has been on a continual upward trend for the last several years. Since 2004, an estimated 1.8 billion dollars has been spent on exploration in Saskatchewan, a dramatic increase when compared to the 674.5 million dollars spent in the previous 20 years. The province's resiliency and continuing success can be attributed to its diverse mineral endowment-a reflection of its geological diversity.
