As many predicted, 2010 was a tremendous year for exploration in Yukon. A modem day gold rush south of the historic Klondike goldfields captured worldwide attention. Claim staking was off the charts, with almost 80,000 new hard rock claims recorded steadily throughout the year, peaking in the month of October with over 15,000 new claims that month - the equivalent of the entire year of staking in 2009- Although the level of staking is unprecedented, only a fraction of land is held by mining interests, i.e., just over 7% of Yukon land is currently covered by mining claims in good standing.
