Korea's automakers were found to have much suffered setbacks in the domestic market in the first half. According to the tentative statistics from the Korea Automobiles Manufacturer Association (KAMA), the entire domestic sales by automakers in the first six months of the year reached 625,106 units, down 10.4 percent from 811,470 units in the same period last year. Despite the intensive marketing activities by carmakers with the positive offers for interest-free installment sales or discount sales, the first-half sales in the home market decreased due to the prolonged economic slump and the reduced auto-related loans caused by the tightened auto-related consumer credit rating assessment standards of installment financing firms and credit card companies.
