Forklift truck sales decline, reflecting sluggish construction industry. Boosted by prosperous sales of excavators, the aggregate production of construction equipment from January through August surged 12.7 percent from the same period of 2002. According to the statistics released September 29 by the Korea Construction Equipment Manufacturers Association on the monthly trend of domestic construction industry in August, the accumulated number of construction equipment manufactured in the first eight months of the year reached 29,098 units, up 12.7 percent from 25,821 units in the corresponding period of the previous year. By item, excavators jumped 25.4 percent from a year ago to 12,030 units. Loaders climbed 1.5 percent year-on-year to 1,344 units. Cranes, which had recoded only 1 units a year ago, came to 581 units this year, while concrete pump trucks skyrocketed 396.6 percent from a year earlier to 288 units.
