Russian slab price was found to have recently surged up to 280 U.S. dollars (C&F) per ton. Industry sources said that export price of Russian slabs was found to have gone up to 280 U.S. dollars per ton in the contracts recently concluded in China and such a bullish trend of Russian slab price is also noted in Southeast Asian markets. Related importers explained that Asian market for flat products are enjoying a boom and demand for slabs in particular has increased to a large extent, surpassing a rise in supply and thus, raising the market price. Such a relatively low increase in supply is said to have resulted from the concentration in efforts by major steelmakers on the output of high value-added flat products rather than semi-finished products.
