The PPS is considering scraping the contract clause to nominate plural number of contractors per area. It doest not seem far away for steelmakers to make contracts with the government for the supply of reinforcing bars for government use. The Public Procurement Service (PPS) invited steelmakers twice to the bids last month --the first one held April 16 and the second April 21--for the purchase of 1 million tons of reinforcing bar for 2004, but in vain. Accordingly, the finalization of the contract has been delayed to be made on a negotiation base. However, it was raised to be desirable at the meeting that the PPS had with reinforcing bar makers April 19 that the government's method to select the plural number of suppliers in each region should be done away with, and the PPS decided to carefully consider it.
