Annual sales of Korean automotive vehicles increased 11.8 percent last year compared with 2001. According to the recent provisional statistics from the Korea Automobile Manufacturers Association, domestic automakers sold a total of 1,622,377 units of cars in domestic market in 2002, posting a year-on-year surge of 11.8 percent from 1,451,450 units in 2001. Industries sources said that such a high increase in domestic sales last year was attributed to a recovery of Korea's economy that registered an annual growth of 6.2 percent last year, special consumption tax cut for a limited period of time until August 30 with the aim to boost automotive sales and a rush of new model debuts.
