Import volume of CHQ wire rods this year is foreseen to be much smaller than estimated, as import prices for the second-quarter shipments are expected to rise high. Annual imports of CHQ wire rods this year have been estimated to be about 164,000 tons, down 21.2 percent from 2003, but actual inbound shipments are likely to get lower than such estimation because domestic importers are being strongly asked by Japanese CHQ wire rod suppliers to raise their import price for the second-quarter shipments. In the worst case, it would be possible to see a change to a raw material price link system that immediately reflects prices in the market.
