Local makers of cold heading quality (CHQ) wires, who have expanded their facilities in expectation of an increase in demand for the products together with a growth in automotive industry, feel it quite burdensome to see that fastener makers have reduced their purchasing volume of CHQ wires since May in the wake of their inventory adjustment as well as the recent labor strike at automotive plants. Four local CHQ wire makers - - Donbang Special Steel, Miju Material, Hanyoung Steel and KORAM Steel - - have expanded their short time cycle (STC) furnaces this year to upgrade their production capacity of heat-treated products, and Dongil Ind. started up two units of its new STC furnaces that replaced the superannuated ones. Besides, SeAH Special Steel, which is under construction of a new plant at Choongju, began the installation of a hydrogen bell-type furnace with a schedule for completion within this year.
