Union Steel is accelerating the development of new environment-friendly pre-painted steel sheets. Union Steel's Technical Research Center announced on June 13 that it has achieved success in the development of new environment-friendly surface-clean pre-painted steel sheets, 're-clean,' after about one-year research and development work. An official at Union Steel said, 'The 're-clean' pre-painted steel sheets have a strongpoint to make it easy to remove stickers, scribble or oil dirt from the surface of steel sheets used for electric home appliances or materials for construction works. Thus, it will be much helpful for cost saving in maintenance of buildings, if they use the 're-clean' as materials for construction of the buildings that are apt to be easily polluted due to environmental matters. We expect that the 're-clean' could lead the environment-friendly pre-painted steel sheet market as electric home appliances are showing a trend of becoming environment-friendly well-being built-in house-hold appliances these days and the RoHS will come into force on July 1, 2006 in the EU.'
